MEME/SEM

MASTER OF ENGINEERING IN MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING (MEME) WITH SEMICONDUCTOR AND ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING (SEM) CONCENTRATION

The Semiconductor Manufacturing Concentration leads to a Master of Manufacturing Engineering degree with objectives to provide, (1) a broad semiconductor industry background, and (2) an academic bridge to this industry from a variety of academic backgrounds, such as Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Instruction for this program makes use of semiconductor industry experts and National Laboratory staff and facilities to augment UNM's extensive interdisciplinary educational resources. This expanded mix insures a broad, modern experience in each of the areas that makeup the semiconductor fabrication enterprise, ranging from organization and management to design and processing specific technologies through the varied packaging and tests that insure reliability of the final microelectronics product.

Six courses make up the core technical part of the curriculum and three courses overview management practices. The core technical courses are divided into modules, each of which has an individual instructor. This team-teaching approach insures maximum exposure to scientists and engineers with experience in modern microcircuit fabrication and test.

The S/C Concentration Plan can be entered via the ChNE, ECE, or ME Home departments.

MSME/Mfg

COMMITTEE ON STUDIES FOR MS (ME, WITH MFG ENGR CONCENTRATION)

For the Master of Science degree (with a Manufacturing Engineering concentration), the committee-on-studies shall be composed of at least three members, with the following constraints (see COS page):

the Chair of the COS must be a home department (ECE, ME) Faculty member;
at least two Faculty members must be tenured or tenure track;
at least two members shall be full-time home department (ECE, ME) faculty members;
at least one Faculty member shall be from Manufacturing Engineering; and
at least one person from local industry, actively engaged in manufacturing.
The COS, in addition to approving the scope, content and presentation of the Thesis or Project, approves the elective courses. The student should defend a proposal of the Thesis or Project scope and content to the entire COS, early in the Thesis or Project effort (i.e., not near the end of the effort).

MEME/MBA DUAL DEGREE PLAN

MASTER OF MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (MEME/MBA DUAL DEGREE PLAN)

The School of Engineering (SOE) and the Anderson Schools of Management (ASM) offer a dual-degree program leading to the degrees of Master of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering (MEME, Code 339) and the Master of Business Administration (MBA, Code 140). Under this 60-hour program, seven courses are shared: ASM will accept 9 hours of graduate credit from the Manufacturing Engineering Program (MEP) core and 6 hours of engineering technical electives; the SOE will accept 6 hours of graduate credit from ASM, to be applied to the MEP core. Engineering Concentration Electives may come from either the Mechanical Manufacturing Concentration or the Computers in Manufacturing Concentration (as defined for the MEME degree).

Students pursing this program must satisfy the admission and other academic requirements of both schools. Students need to take the GRE (required for MEME) and the GMAT (required for MBA) for admission. Students are required to complete a three-month industrial internship, in a manufacturing setting (or demonstrate previous equivalent experience). Students are also required to complete a 3 credit hour Project (Plan II) in conjunction with a manufacturing enterprise, or complete a 6 credit hour Thesis (Plan I).

NOTE

Applicants for the MEME/MBA dual-degree plan must apply to and be admitted to, in parallel, the Anderson Schools of Management (for the MBA program, which requires the GMAT) and the School of Engineering Manufacturing Engineering Program (for the MEME, which requires the GRE). Applicants for the MEME/MBA degree need to denote degree code "339/140 (MEME/MBA)" on their application forms. Graduation for both degrees must occur in the same semester.

For details, contact Megan Conner (ASM PM) at 505-277-3147 or John Wood (MEP Dir) at (505) 272-7000.
